China

The monsoon rain hitting the window pane.

The distant honking of traffic.

The chirping of birds on tree tops.

The loudspeakers advertising the scrape peddler’s services as he snakes around the neighborhood on his bike.

These are the familiar noises that keep my groggy jet-lagged head half-awake at 5AM.
